Cashews: RCN supplies dwindle in Vietnam

HANOI/NEW DELHI. The cashew industry in Vietnam can hardly cope with the increasing number of enquiries for prompt shipments in the export market. Additional supplies are called for.

According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Commerce, an estimated 40,000 mt of cashew kernels worth USD 294 million were shipped overseas in May 2019. Average export prices ranged at 7,350 USD/mt. A total of 155,000 mt (+8.8%) worth USD 1,204 billion (-14.2%) were exported in the first five months of this year.

As the Vietnam Cashew Association (Vinacas) reports, the stocks of many processors currently only serve running contracts. This does not cover the numerous enquiries for prompt shipments. Problem is that Vietnam and India cut back in import of
