Cashews: Lack of finance causes backlog

NEW DELHI/HANOI. Indian cashew growers have been able to harvest a record crop in 2017/18. Prices, however, continue to rise due to good demand.

 

India intends to increase production
With 817,045 mt of raw cashew nuts, Indian cashew production reached a new peak in 2017/18. Consumption is, however, expected to rise to as much as 1.7 million mt, which must be met as well as possible by imports from other growing countries. Local traders and exporters are having to replenish their stocks to be covered for the holiday season. The increase in demand has caused prices to rise once again this week.
