MALATYA. Supplies may be abundant, but high quality dried apricots are difficult to obtain. The farmers take part of the blame as they started harvesting to soon. Buyers appear to be particularly interested in diced apricots.

Quality issues

The prices for dried apricots remain stable for now. Traders, however expect the situation to change in September as it is reckoned that demand is set to rise which should especially cause the prices for Jumbos and no. 1-3 to increase further. The large crop mainly produced small fruits and the early harvest had an adverse impact on the taste since the sugar content was far too low.

Not much room for speculation

There should be abundant supplies of dried apricots no 4 and smaller. Prices should, however, not drop too much lower. Prices for sulphured apricots currently range from 1,700 USD/mt for no 8 to 3,700 USD/mt FOB for Jumbos – a discrepancy of 2,000 USD/mt.

Hungry for diced apricots
