MALATYA. The apricot farmers' financial difficulties made it easy for Turkish dried fruit traders to stock up at low prices before the holidays. Things should be different as of next week.

Big apricots are rare
Market players assume that the prices for Jumbo-sized as well as No. 1 to No. 3 dried apricots will rise rapidly after the holidays. The smaller sized No. 4 to No. 8 fruit should also become more expensive, but thanks to the good availability, the prices should not rise as much as for the bigger dried apricots.

More than 140,000 mt of dried apricots are expected to be produced by Turkish farmers this year, this corresponds to a rise in production of more than 40 % compared to 2016. However, a side-effect of the increased production is that the trees are mainly bearing small fruit.
