MALATYA. Besides Turkey, Russian dried fruit importers also purchase dried apricots from Tajikistan. The prices are unbeatable.

In terms of the price, the offers there can hardly be beat at 900 USD/mt, however, Turkish quality is preferred – especially since much more of this is available on the market. To be able to still stay in the export business, traders report that Tajikistan traders are buying dried apricots from Turkey to then export them to Russia.

Incredible production estimates in Turkey

It was already known that a good apricot crop is once more expected this year, but even in their wildest dreams, traders could not have imagined such production estimates for Turkish dried apricots. About 85,000-90,000 mt of dried apricots were produced in Turkey last year, definitely a more than satisfactory result. According to current reports, the outlooks for the 2017 crop are so good that a dried apricot production volume of 150,000 mt is possible. Even if the frost largely spared the developing fruit this year and hail did not cause any damage to the fruit until now, some market players consider these estimates to be somewhat too optimistic. They think that a production of 120,000-130,000 mt is much more realistic.
