MALATYA. Turkish dried fruit traders largely agree on the estimates for the new crop, but the situation is different for the prices for prompt deliveries.

All sizes available
With at least 140,000 mt, the projections for dried apricots are better than they have been in many years. As is the case for other dried fruits, however, concerns about losses in quality due to rainfall and hail showers are also spreading. The new crop could also only be available on the market two to three weeks later than expected. Still, the overall outlook is optimistic. All fruit sizes are sufficiently represented, which should prevent larger difference in price between the different sizes.

Traders disagree
Assessments of the current market situation are contradictory. Some traders are speaking of limited supplies and rising prices for prompt deliveries. Others are providing the lowest offers in years. Although significant surpluses are not to be expected this season, supplies will definitely meet demand.
