Almonds: winter refuses to leave

MADRID/SACRAMENTO. Weather conditions have taken centre stage for almonds. Suppliers are spooked by a winter that refuses to leave in California and in Spain.

Windy weather not a good sign

Weather conditions are highly unusual in California at present as a cold snap offers far from ideal conditions for the mid-bloom season. Snow has been reported in some places, that have never witnessed anything like this before. Temperatures are close to freezing in the morning and only climb to about 50F (10C) throughout the day. The windy weather also spells bad news for pollination and the bloom is only progressing slowly.
