Almonds: Traders reckon with as much as 1.18 million mt

MADRID/SACRAMENTO. The Spanish association of almond crackers recently met in Lleida. Not only were the prodctuin estimates for 2019/20 thematised but also the potential for expansion over the next few years.

Prices stable at a high level
Harvesting should start in mid-August and the new crop is expected to arrive in September. Current production estimates range 78,000 mt for almonds without peel. Due to the continuous increase in acreage produciton may rise to 119,678 mt and 134,048 mt in 2020 and 2021. The growing regions for organic almonds suffered noticeably from the frosty temperatures in spring, which should lead to a decline in production of 25% to 40%.
