Almonds: surprising twist in Europe

SACRAMENTO. While the official estimates for US production remain rather low, larger volumes than last year have been registered so far. US exports are progressing well. The spot market prices in Europe have taken a surprising turn.

Limited carry-overs reduce supplies

As much as 721,331 metric tonnes of almonds from the new crop had been registered on the US market by the end of October. This is an increase of 2.4% over last year. Total supplies currently range at a similar level as last year. Since the start of the season, the US has shipped 276,452 metric tonnes of almonds with and without shells (+7%). A further 314,781 metric tonnes have already been sold and still have to be shipped. Based on the current results, only 260,058 metric tonnes remain on the free market, 21% less than last year
