Almonds: Spain raises production estimates

MADRID/SACRAMENTO. Spain has raised its production estimates for 2018/19. California will need to pay close attention to the impact the trade war with China will have.

 

Production to rise by 15%

Spain is currently reckoning with a crop of 61,160 mt, whereas previous estimates ranked at 60,000 mt. This would mean an increase of 15% over last year and a production of 35% over the 5-year moving average.

The new estimates are higher because they also consider orchards in regions such as Extremadura, which had hitherto not been considered important enough. Estimates have, however, dropped for other regions such as Aragon.
