Almonds: Less organic almonds expected

MADRID/SACRAMENTO. The Spanish Association of Nut Growers, AEOFRUSE, this year made its own forecast for the almond production 2019 and recently announced its subjective crop estimates.

Unofficial crop forecasts
In a circular letter to its members and business partners, AEOFRUSE announced that they estimate the Spanish almond crop for 2019 at around 78,166 mt without shell. The extrapolation is based on the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture's figures for the productive area under cultivation of 556,000 hectares.

A large percentage of the almond plantations are already aging and no longer shedding as many nuts as they did at their peak. To counteract this, new areas are constantly being cultivated for almonds.
