Surpassed expectations
The May exports went surprisingly well, particularly shipments to Germany exceeded expectations, whereas India and China were slightly weaker. Altogether, US suppliers exported almost 220,000 mt to the EU, about 12% more than last year at this time. Of this amount, 78,260 mt went to Spain (+10%) and 46,790 mt (+29%) went to Germany.

Non-stop record crops
At the beginning of the season, the 2016 US production was estimated at about 930,000 mt. By the end of May, however, as much as 968,000 mt were registered. Unofficial estimates of 1.05 million mt are circulating for the 2017 crop; the next official estimates should be published on 06 July 2017.
The almond trees are in very good condition. As long as the weather does not upset plans the chances for a bountiful 2018 crop are also very good.
Demand should keep pace
In the last few weeks, the almond prices exhibited a stable to falling trend. Despite the good crop prospects, market players assume that the price decline will be kept within limits in the new season. The higher availability will probably encourage buyers to purchase more.
