CANBERRA. According to the recently issued export report of the Almond Board of Australia (ABA), Germany currently ranks third as export destination. In spring the Almond Board of Australia estimated production at 93,000 metric tonnes without shell. After the harvest was, however, completed...

...in May this figure was revised to 100,700 metric tonnes, which is 28% higher than the initial production estimate.

Australia increases exports by 42

Australia has shipped as much as 44,419 metric tonnes of almonds with and without shells overseas since the beginning of the season in March. This is increase of 42% over the same period last year. Australia is most certainly profiting from the trade dispute between the US abd China. The punitive tariffs on US almonds have prompted buyers in China to look for alternatives. Exports from Australia to China have thereby surged to 25,000 metric tonnes between March and July. As much as 56.3% of Australia's total almond exports were destined for China. By contrast, exports to India declined by 45% to 6,440 metric tonnes. Exports to Germany have risen by as much as 51% to 3,217 metric tonnes, whereby US shipments to Germany declined by 18% in 2018/2019.
