MADRID/SACRAMENTO. Bar some Californian almond plantations, this year’s almond harvest has finished, with most farmers having already harvested their production for the year.

With the end of the harvest period approaching, precipitation in the plantation areas delayed the herald of the dry season by several days. With an expected crop of more than 1 M mt, the Californian almond farmers realised a record yield this year. The only drop of bitterness is the high rejection rate; well over 2% of production is useless because of insect infestation.

In its current report, the USDA assumes that around two-thirds of this year’s crop, 675,000 mt, will be exported. This too is a record amount.
