Almonds: Crop estimates differ by more than 15,000 mt

MADRID/SACRAMONTO. Global production is expected to rise by roughly 11% this year. The production estimates for Spain, however, vary considerably.

Rise in global production

The figures presented at the INC World Nut and Dried Fruit Congress, indicated a rise in production for 2019/20. Production in all major producing countries is expected to be up on last year. A total of just below 1.45 million mt of almonds without shell should be produced. A record of 1.13 million mt is to be reached in California and production is to exceed 100,000 mt in Australia.

Production estimates for Spain range at 78,000 mt. The Mesa Nacional de Frutos Secos is, however, reckoning with 62,568 mt, which may only be a few ton
