Wheat: Will be another strong export season

SOFIA. The stronger the harvest, the higher export activities. Recent rains are in favor of sowing

BULGARIA. The better quality grains and the higher national output this season, sold on the background of competitive prices within the Black sea basin, maintain a soaring export turnover rate. Never before have export activities been so strong during the last few years.

Wheat: Exports continue to climb

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, by the end of last week, via Varna seaport, the country shipped out to the world 996,737 mt of wheat, which is an increase of 33.3% on a year-to-year basis. In recent years, the marine route accounts for about half of all country’s exports of wheat. The other seaport, situated at the city of Burgas, registered only 6,000 mt of shipped volumes. By the end of last week, available stocks reached 3,921,708 mt.

By the 22nd of the month, 1,647,093 mt of wheat went to EU markets while 187,139 mt were shipped out to countries of the rest of the world. The export trend is forecasted to keep the upbeat since the quality characteristics of wheat this season are higher and prices of grains are quite competitive within the Black sea region.

Autumn sowing keeps going

The recent rains came just in time to favor sowing. For the last few days, rains fell throughout the whole country and in the great majority of regions, the showers were of agricultural significance for the sowing of next year’s crops. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, by the end of last week, total sown acreages stood at 15,133 ha.
