Sunflower seeds: water supplies are the issue

SOFIA/KYIV. Trading association Coceral has revised the production estimates for sunflower seeds in the EU. First and partly conflicting assessments concerning the impact of the destruction of the Nova Khakova dam are emerging in Ukraine.

Coceral reduces crop estimate

While Coceral still estimated EU sunflower seed production at 11.228 million mt in March, this figure has now been revised downwards by 3.5% to 10.832 million mt. Production will be smaller than anticipated in Hungary, France and Spain as well as in Slovakia, whereas the opposite is the case in Romania and Bulgaria. Yet, total output will range 13.5% higher than last year.
