SOFIA/WASHINGTON, D.C. The USDA has published its crop forecast for the global sunflower seed production in 2019/20. The estimates currently do not come close to the record 2018/19 season.

51 million mt sunflower seeds
The US Department of Agriculture currently estimates the global sunflower seed production for 2019/20 at just under 51 million mt, around 1.1% less than this season. Unlike many cereals, sunflower seed production in many Eastern European countries benefited from the weather developments in the summer of 2018. Thanks to record yields, many countries were able to compensate for smaller areas under cultivation. It is therefore not surprising that production results during or shortly after sowing tend to be based on average yields.
