Sunflower seeds: surcharges for prompt deliveries

SOFIA. The harvest has almost been completed in Bulgaria and the results are anything but encouraging so far. Some traders arer charging above market price for prompt deliveries. Processors in Bulgaria are looking for alternatives.

Discouraging prospects

The Ministry of Agriculture of Bulgaria reports that the harvest is virtually complete. Lower yields have prompted production to decline to 1.70-1.75 million metric tonnes. The situation is even worse for hulled kernels as they are unusually small and the high reject rate has reduced supplies.
