Sunflower seeds: Suppliers under pressure

SOFIA. It is far from certain that it makes sense to cultivate a similar amount of sunflower seeds as last year, considering current Bulgarian market conditions.

Western Europe wants to go even lower
The bulk prices for Bulgarian sunflower seeds increased significantly over the last weeks. Black sunflower seeds, unhulled, 96% purity, are now trading at 299 EUR/mt CPT Varna. The prices for hulled sunflower seeds remain unaffected by this development.

The stocks of suppliers and processors are far too large for an increase in prices. Even with prices at a record low at the moment, there is almost no Western European interest for Bakery seeds. Several distributors gave up altogether, only offering Confection seeds for deli
