Sunflower seeds: slow harvest keeps prices high

SOFIA. Harvesting is slower than usual in Bulgaria and has to be frequently interrupted. There is no chance of lower prices. More than 500,000 mt of sunflower seeds have, by contrast, already been harvested in Russia.

Record crops in Ukraine and Russia

Official reports state that as much as 38,800 mt of sunflower seeds had already been harvested in Ukraine at the start of the week, although only 1.2% of the area sown has been harvested so far. As the USDA estimates production in Ukraine at 17.5 million mt this year, which is 3.4 million mt up on 2020, this would be a record. Harvesting has also been completed on 373,800 ha in Russia with a volume ranging at 556,500 mt so far.
