SOFIA. Temperatures in Bulgaria have again sunk below 20°C over the last few days. Suppliers are busy reviewing the damages caused by rain and hailstorms on the fields.

Reports state that the adverse weather conditions at the beginning of July only had a limited impact. The sunflowers are mainly in good shape and last week’s rains have virtually caused no damage.

Large supplies

According to the Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture and Food, this season’s supplies amounted to 2.33 M mt. Domestic consumption has so far reached 1.09 M mt and exports have amounted to 300,000 mt. Remaining stocks are therefore as high as 944,190 mt meaning that there will most certainly be abundant carry-over stocks. The crop estimates for 2017/18 are currently standing at 1.89 M mt.
