Sunflower seeds: The prices after the storm

SOFIA. After the storms of last weekend, the weather forecast remains critical for the next few weeks.

Exceptional weather

Heavy rain and hailstones have already caused considerable concern. Now the weather is supposed to get hot. Temperatures are expected to reach up to 35 °C, far above the average for July (approx. 23 °C). There is no rain in the forecast for now, and some regions are even expecting drought.

Price effects

It is still too early to reliably assess possible damages for grains and oil seeds. The prices for black sunflower seeds, in-shell, 96% purity, have maintained the same level as last week at 314 EUR/mt CPT Varna.

Prices for prompt deliveries of bakery kernels are also stable at 630 EUR/mt FCA Bulgaria. Freight costs may, however, differ depending on the supplier. Offers for bakery kernels from the new crop have stabilised at 600 EUR/mt FCA. It therefore seems as if traders are not expecting any significant damage for now.
