Sunflower seeds: prices on the rise for new crop

SOFIA. Offers for the new sunflower seed crop are very limited as harvesting will not be completed until September. Reports also differ on the state of the plants. A new export ban may, in addition, be issued in Russia.

Conflicting reports

Reports differ widely in Bulgaria. While the persistent drought in the southwest of the country continues have a have impact on the crop with market players reporting that the flowers are literary burning on the fields, traders state that the situation is better in other parts of the country. Here, the sunflowers are developing well and drastic crop damages are not expected. A final assessment will only be possible once the harvest has been completed in September. Harvesting has already started in very dry areas and will pick up in around ten day
