SOFIA. After COCERAL increased its estimates for global production, the market is now reacting.

Prices are under heavy pressure

Sunflower seed prices are under pressure due to the larger crops in Bulgaria (2.01 million mt), Romania (3.03 million mt), Hungary (1.95 million mt) and Spain (0.96 million mt). The average yield of 2.13 mt/ha in the Ukraine is also higher than last year (2017: 1.85 mt/ha). Market observers expect a crop of 14-14.5 million mt. The drastic fall in the price of sunflower oil is exerting additional pressure with prices currently hovering around 670-680 USD/mt FOB in the Black Sea region.
