BRUSSELS. The new estimates from the European association for cereal and oilseed trade, Coceral, suggest that more oilseeds will be produced in Europe as previously expected.

With a total of 34.05 million mt, about 2.33% more oilseeds should be produced in 2017/18 than last year. Coceral expects the most significant rise to occur in rapeseed production with 3.96%, followed by +3.74% for soybeans. Only the production of sunflower seeds is currently below last year's level.

A breakdown for Europe

The declining production figures are due in part to the smaller crop in Hungary (-11.7%). Particularly the 10% smaller yield has serious repercussions, while the acreage is only slightly smaller at 631,000 ha (-1.7%). In contrast, the slightly lower yield in Bulgaria can be more than compensated by the 5.3% increase in acreage.
