Sunflower seeds: Hullers require more seeds

SOFIA. In Bulgaria, the processing of the new crop has started nearly two weeks ago. The hullers report that the kernels are about 10% smaller in size than last year and that the oil content is higher.

Oil content is above average

SInce some regions in Bulgaria have not witnessed any rain since the end of July the kernels are roughly 10-12% smaller in size. However, the oil content is reportedly very high. The hullers are therefore required to purchase more sunflower seeds to produce the same volumes as last year. The price neverthertheless remain stable for the time being. Black in shells with a 96% purity continue to trade at EUR 0.284 per kg CPT Varna and bakery kernels in a range of EUR 0.62-0.63 per kg DDP Germany. This situation may, however, change very soo
