SOFIA/KIEV. The current price movement for sunflower seeds has taken the market by surprise in Bulgaria. Moreover, producers in the south of the country are slowly concerned over the lack of rain.

Ideal conditions for sowing

The wet soil offers the best conditions for sowing in the North of Bulgaria. In the southern part of the country, however, water is urgently needed, and the producers are hoping for rain. The traders are anything but worried. They expect acreage to reach as similar size as last year. Only the weather in August may pose a possible risk factor. COCERAL, however, expects production in Bulgaria to decline by nearly 16% to 1.665 million mt this season.
