SOFIA. The harvest has largely been completed in Bulgaria. Market players, however, reckon that the production estimates may have to be revised once again.

Yields are considerably lower than last year

According to the estimates recently issued by the Ministry of Agriculture of Bulgaria, the harvest has been completed on 96% of the fields. So far the crop amounts to 1.64 million metric tonnes of sunflower seeds. Average yields range at 2.30 metric tonnes per hectare, which is well below last year's record of 2.69 metric tonnes per hectare. Although market players reckon that prodcution estimates will be revised upwards, last year's record will not be reached.
