Sunflower seeds: Germany's imports slump by 60%

SOFIA/KIEV. The high price level in the sunflower seed market is deterring buyers. In Ukraine, the harvest is slowly coming to an end and Germany imported about 60% less sunflower seeds in the first month of the new season than in the same month last year.

Prices remain unattractive

By the end of last week, the sunflower seed harvest had been completed in 14 Ukrainian administrative districts (oblasts), while work in the fields continues in individual regions. So far, 15.6 million mt of sunflower seeds have been harvested on 6.4 million ha, with an average yield of 2.45 mt/ha. In Russia, 15.1 million mt of sunflower seeds have been harvested on 9.5 million ha so far.
