SOFIA. As suppliers in Bulgaria have announced, the first arrivals from the new crop are already available for shipment.

Rise in farmgate prices

The harvest in Bulgaria is starting slowly with yields on the first hectares harvested being reprtotedly lower than expected. The kernels are also said to be smaller than last year. There is, however. no reason for concern as it is quite common that the first hecatres provide lower yields.

The prices for black in shells with a  96% purity have therefore risen again this week to EUR 0.29 per kg CPT Varna. Hulled bakery kernels are trading stable. The starting prices for the new crop range at EUR 0.625 per kg DDP Germany.
