SOFIA. The at times very high price level for sunflower seeds of the bakery type from the old crop over the past few weeks made the produce unattractive for many buyers. At the beginning of the new season, market participants are therefore expecting an increase in demand.

A positive outlook
The prospects for Bulgarian sunflower seed production in 2018 are far better than a few months ago. Positive reports regarding the coming crop are also coming out of the Ukraine and Russia, and market participants are no longer ruling out a global record production in 2018/19.

According to official estimates, the sunflower seed stocks in Bulgaria reached a level of 699,000 mt at the end of July, and market participants consider this value to be far too high. They assume that the level at the end of the 2017/18 season will not even reach 100,0
