SOFIA. The Ukraine has successfully gained one of the pole positions as supplier for the EU. Market participants are, in the meantime, crossing their fingers for Bulgaria.

Incredible increases

The Ukraine has exported agri products worth 4.12 bln USD to the EU in 2016. This is an incredible increase of 68.2 M USD as compared to 2015 meaning that the country now ranks third in amongst the top agri suppliers for the EU. Sunflower kernel exports have more than tripled (namely x 3.4) and sunflower oil exports have nearly doubled (x 1.9). In addition, oilcake and other soybean product exports have quadrupled (x 4) and sugar exports more than tripled (x 3.1).

Fingers are crossed for Bulgaria

Bulgaria is currently confronted with persistent rainfalls, which are to last until the end of the week. Although the rain provides good moisture for the fields before sowing, the farmers do require some days without rain to commence and complete sowing. The raw seed prices for black sunflower seeds, 96% purity have considerably decreased to 353 EUR/mt CPT Varna. The DDP Germany prices for sunflower kernels bakery have also slightly dropped to 730 EUR/mt, which is very similar to the prices offered in Moldova.
