Shift in Germany
A considerable shift has taken place in Germany over the last ten years. In 2006 China was one of the most important suppliers for Germany. But in 2016 this the situation has changed completely. The most recent import data provided by the German Federal Statistical Office shows how important Eastern Europe has become. The most important suppliers are Hungary and Bulgaria.

Booming export market
Shipments from Bulgaria have increased again. As much as 19,000 mt of raw sunflower seeds were shipped. Currently 14,000 mt are being loaded and another 20,175 mt are about to be shipped soon. It is therefore little wonder the market has once again witnessed nominal price increases for raw seeds this week. Black in shell sunflower kernels are currently offered for 363 EUR/mt CPT Varna.
The processors, however, cannot benefit from these increases. Although interest has certainly increased, the buyers only accept cheaper offers. The prices for Eastern European bakery kernels continue on a stable level of 0.73 EUR/kg DDP Germany.
