Sunflower seed kernels: Astronomical prices in Bulgaria

SOFIA. The market is not heeding the current rainfalls. Astronomical prices are instead causing concern in Bulgaria. The exporters are facing a dilemma.

 The famers want more

Although the weak euro is currently taking the blame for the upsurge in prices for black sunflower kernels, 96% purity, the farmers are the ones who have sharply increased their prices. Black sunflower kernel prices have increased to 360.46 EUR/mt CPT Varna this week. The farmers have increased the raw seed prices to as much as 368 EUR/mt, despite of the market being very subdued.

Stable bakery prices

Sowing is about to start in Bulgaria. The high raw kernel prices have, however, deterred suppliers from offering long-term contracts. They are rather focusing on the next few months. The prices for bakery kernels have only nominally increased. Bakery kernels from Moldova remained on a stable level of 730 EUR/mt DDP Germany.
