MANISA. Low purchase prices in the alcohol industry are prompting growers to dry their fresh grapes. Meanwhile, sultana producers are still waiting in vain for a statement from the TMO.

More sultanas than expected

With the end of the harvest, Turkish sultana growers are currently offering mainly their darker type 8 goods. Due to the rainfall at the end of the drying period, these not only differ in colour from the lighter sultanas, type 9, but also have a higher moisture content, which makes them somewhat softer. Type 8 sultanas are traded at prices of TRY 80-100/kg, while the commodity prices for type 9 are TRY 100-110/kg. However, many growers are still holding back the latter in the hope of being able to realise higher prices for them later.
