MANISA. Shock in Turkey as the worst fears have come true. Frost has severely affected the vineyards.

Frost creates havoc

Frost occurred in the vineyards around Manisa last weekend. The vineyards that have already started to bloom are mainly affected and the damages appear to be very severe with up 50% of the vines affected in some places. It will, however, only be possible to assess the exact damage after the 15 April.

Price rises expected

Market participants expect prices to climb. The farmers are in addition complaining of too low prices and are withholding their raisins. Another factor that should be considered is the referendum, which will be held on 16 April. Regardless of the outcome, the current uncertainties will certainly have an impact on the local currency. Some traders believe in a possible export boom.
