MANISA. The market is keeping a close eye on the election to be held in Istanbul this weekend. Meanwhile, major exporters are already negotiating the farmgate prices for the new crop.

Abundant Thompson supplies

Exports of sultanas and raisins from Turkey have now risen to just under 214,000 mt, around 15,000 mt less than last year. At 2,010 USD/mt, this season’s average export price, is a whopping 415 USD or 20% higher than last year.

This season’s sales of Turkish Thompson are below expectations. Experts report that Thompsons from South Africa are still available in the market and traders in California are also looking for buyers. Importers in Europe are profiting from these abundant supplies.
