MANISA. Over the last few days, the night temperatures in Turkey have dropped to just over 0 °C. There currently are no frost warnings and crop damages are not expected since the vines have not yet begun to flower.

Cut back in production

Market players are convinced that this year’s production will be spared from frost damage. The prospects for Thompson raisins are, however, not quite as rosy since sales range well below expectations. The decline in production in California in 2017 encouraged a hike in production in Turkey. In 2018/19 about 45,000 mt of Thompsons were produced, although production usually ranges at 20,000-25,000 mt. In 2019/20, production is expected to drop back down to these volumes.
