Sultanas: Iran may prompt price surge

MANISA/TEHRAN. Turkish sultana growers may make the same mistake that ruined the Chinese pumpkin seed market. Exchange rate concerns in Iran may also prompt traders to change their prices in Turkey.

 

Growers tend to be optimistic
According to reports, Turkish dried fruit suppliers have exported around 6,000–7,000 mt of Thompson raisins, almost the complete annual crop. Raw sultanas are currently trading at 8.00–8.50 TRY/kg, while sultanas, Type 9 are on the spot market for 4.00–4.50 TRY/kg.

The disappointing Californian crop and resulting Thompson shortages on the international market drives Turkish growers to cultivate an unusual amount of Thompson raisins in 2018/19 to profit from the higher prices. If the US is, however,
