MANISA. The TMO stopped purchasing in December and market players are speculating over the second half of the season. In March-April the weather will prove decisive for the new crop. Demand is expected to revive.

Demand should revive

The rise in production to 305,000 metric tonnes prompted the TMO to conduct purchases from the beginning of the season until December. This prevented farmgate prices from dropping below TRY 10.00 per kg. Market players reckon that carry-over stocks may range at 70,000-80,000 metric tonnes at the end of the season. The prices for type 9 and type 10 sultanas have decreased nominally, and declines are possible if the weather is normal in March-April, which is decisive for the development of the new crop.
