Traders are assuming that the exports until the end of the season will be of 1,000 mt per week. When the domestic consumption is added, there will be hardly anything left over from the sultana production of 2016. Since the beginning of the season, almost 165,000 mt of sultanas have been exported, that is 37.5% more than last year at this time. The average export price has also dropped by 26%.

First prices for the 2017 crop
At 1,300 USD/mt FOB Izmir, the first offers for goods from the new crop are slightly above the current level. Upon closer consideration, however, this level is quite understandable. The risk of frost is not over yet, which is why the contract offers for goods from the new crop do not go beyond December 2017 at this point.
In addition, because of the ban on imports in 2016, considerably less table grapes have been exported to Russia than planned. Traders report that last year, Turkey only exported 6,000 mt of fresh grapes, compared to 106,000 mt in 2015. As a result, there were more grapes available for sultana production than usual. If the crop is spared from serious frost damage, the sultana production could reach 300,000 mt again in 2017.
