Sultanas: Frost has limited impact on production

MANISA. Last week’s frosty temperatures have left their mark on the vines in Turkey. The market is, nevertheless, unperturbed.

300,000 mt are possible

This year’s initial production estimates ranged at 350,000 mt, which would have been a record. Last week’s frost is, however, currently estimated to have damaged ca 15% of the vines, which is why the official production estimates for sultanas have now been revised to 300,000 mt.

Offers for type 9 standard sultanas from the 2019 crop currently range at 2,000-2,200 USD/mt FOB Izmir. Should the Turkish lira continue to lose value over the next few months, however, the export prices may decline further. Contrary to this, the p
