Sultanas: Carryover stocks saved the export

MANISA. By the end of April 2019, around 80,000 mt fewer sultanas and raisins had been registered on the Turkish bourses than last year at this time. At the same time, exports are only 11,000 mt behind the previous year.

80,000 mt less than last year
In the first eight months of the 2018/19 season, 231,479 mt of sultanas and raisins were registered on the Turkish bourses; last year, this figure had risen to 310,378 mt by this time.

Nevertheless, the export volume is only 11,000 mt behind the previous year's result, and exporters were able to compensate for the difference with carryover from the 2017 crop. Due to the small production volume in this season, however, no noteworthy end of season stocks are to be expected from the 2018 crop.
