MANISA. It is very quiet on the Turkish dried fruit market this week because of the SIAL. A good time to have a closer look at the export figures of the last few weeks.

Turkish exporters have shipped more than 46,000 mt of sultanas abroad since the beginning of the season, which is significantly more than last year at this time (33,370 mt).
Great Britain is the largest consumer this year, as well as last year by far with about 9,250 mt. Germany, however, has increased its imports by more than 3,000 mt to 6.300 mt, compared to the same time last year. Italy held second place in that ranking in 2015, and the Netherlands took third place before Germany.

Canada wants more
China, Iran, and Turkey are currently on very similar levels where offers for their sultanas are concerned. Only sultanas from the USA are more expensive, as usual. For this reason, Turkish traders are hoping to win Canada and the USA as sales markets in this season. As of yet, there were no exports registered to the USA, although almost twice the amount as the previous year were already exported to Canada.
As previously reported, prices for sultanas should have hit rock bottom already. Currently, traders are not figuring on any significant price increases until the beginning of 2017.
