MANISA. The high prices for Thompson raisins are also very attractive for growers in Turkey. Good production estimates in other countries could, however, have an impact on the Turkish export market.

Trade is subdued in Turkey and weekly exports are stable at 4,000-4,500 mt. Exports may reach 275,000 mt by the end of the season and would thereby only range 5,000 mt lower than the current production estimates for 2018.

Processors in California have bought large amounts Thompson raisins from South Africa and Chile to be able to meet domestic demand and compensate for the decline in production.
