Sugar: Record production in France

PARIS. The imminent elimination of the production and export quotas for EU sugar is making the cultivation of sugar beets particularly attractive this year. French beet farmers are expected to bring in the biggest crop in 25 years.

More than 40 million mt of sugar beets
Despite the drought that reigned in French sugar beet production areas in August, the average yield for this year increased by 0.3% to 85.8 mt/ha. However, this result does not come close to the 5-year average of 87.5 mt/ha (according to agimoney.com).
