India: Sugar is sweet for sugar mills and bitter for customers

Due to the bumper production of sugar in the current season, the sugar prices going below; so, the Food Ministry has built a minimum price $425 per ton for sugar mills.

After the starting of monthly sugar sales quota system, the sugar prices recovered again few days ago. Meanwhile, the government is in trouble.

In the current season, the production of sugar came to around 31.5 million tones and carry forward stock was 4 million tones. Thus, the total available supply of sugar was 35.5 million tones and the country's annual consumption
