Sesame seeds: Yield losses expected due to precipitation

ASUNCION. Besides South African growing countries, sesame seeds harvests are also upcoming in the South American region. Paraguayan farmers are looking to start harvesting in January.

Sowing ongoing
The sesame seed growing areas in Paraguay have once again been plagued by heavy rains in December. Regular rainfall already impaired the sowing process for the 2017/18 harvest. However, around 95% of the planned cultivation area is said to have been cultivated to date. It is not clear how much cultivation acreage has fallen victim to the precipitation.
