NEW DELHI. The announcement of the new tender in Korea has prompted traders in India to raise their prices. Packaging may prove a challenge for many suppliers.

Packaging is an obstacle

South Korea is looking for 5,000 mt in premium and 5,000 mt in standard quality. Bidding starts on 16 July. Shipments from Asia should arrive by 16 September, shipments from other regions such as Africa should arrive by 16 October.

Traders in India report that the prices and quality are not the only decisive factors this year. Only shipments with wooden boxes wrapped in plastic will be accepted. The problem, however, is that this excludes most suppliers in Africa.
